So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. You are reasonable people. Decide for yourselves if what I am saying is true. When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ? And though we are many, we all eat from one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body. Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they united by eating the sacrifices at the altar? What am I trying to say? Am I saying that food offered to idols has some significance, or that idols are real gods? No, not at all. I am saying that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don’t want you to participate with demons. You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too. What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is? – Corinthians 10:14-22
In these verses, we see that we can’t worship (esteem, value, go after) the things this world loves and hold dear. We must worship (esteem, value, go after) Christ above all things.
As we covered in previous blogs, if we go after the things for this world, we will become like them. In fact, we’ll become enslaved by them. Jesus said, “He who sins is a slave to sin.” Here we see that the things of this world and the work of demons.
When we choose to believe that we have to dress, act, walk, talk, or be a certain way in order to fit in, get a man/women, or get ahead in life, it is a demonic spirit that is selling you and the world that lie. When people tell you that you’re not normal because you’re not sleeping around having as much sex as you can, that voice isn’t coming from the person how old you that, it’s coming from the demonic realms of Hell.
The world and its lies are controlled by demons and set on fire by Hell.
That is why it says in there verses that we cannot drink of the cup of Christ and drink from the cup of demons.
There are two different paths, two different masters, two different kingdoms. As Jesus put it “You cannot serve two masters. You will either love the one or despise the other.”
And it’s written another place, “For our battle is not against flesh and blood. But against the powers and principalities of this age.”
So let’s flee every appearance of evil by limiting out exposure to the negative influences of this world and spend more time in prayer, in reading the word and listening to the voice of out Lord, Master and Creator, Jesus Christ. So that we may always be in tune with what the Holy Spirit is saying to us and to the churches.
Let us let go of the things of this world, of this life and hold fast to Christ and His will for our lives.
As Elijah said so long ago “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!”
You can’t serve Christ and the Baals of this world. You much choose!
As for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.
Who with you choose?
