Back To The Basics

God recently reminded me that I was so focused on building my ministry and fundraising that I forgot to actually spend time ministering. Which is the point of everything God had called me to do. Worse yet, all this “doing” was keeping me from spending quality time with God.

Then He reminded me of what He said in Matthew 7:22-23: “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’’

You see, I got so caught up in doing what I thought needed to be done to reach my goals, that I forgot about spending real quality time with the Lord and asking Him what it is He wanted me to be doing.

In the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much money is in the bank account, how many shelter houses are built, or how many things this ministry does for God. Or even how many people I prophecy to, help or counsel.

What matters is: Does Jesus know me? Do I truly know Him? Have I spent each day cultivating and building our relationship?

The rest is all secondary. I cannot truly help others find Jesus or help others be who He created them to be if I don’t have a good relationship with Christ myself.

Now, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be doing the things God told us to do or that the Holy Spirit has told us to do. In Matthew 7:21 is says: Not everyone who says to me, “‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”’

What I am saying is: How are we going to know what it is that God wants us to be doing if we don’t spend and real quality time with Him?

If we don’t take time to wait upon Him and listen to His voice, we’ll end up doing many things but end up missing the mark and not doing what Jesus wanted to tell us to be doing.

So God told me to get back to the basics. To spend more time in prayer, reading the word, in worship and cultivating our relationship. As well as doing personal development.

To just love the people around me, make them feel special, and show them they matter just by listening to them. And to build genuine relationships with the people around me and those He brings my way.

And let God take care of the rest.

God is calling all of you to do the same.

At the end of your life, when you stand before your Creator, do you really want to see Him look at you and say “’I never knew you!’ ‘Away from me, you evildoers!’?” Or do you want to look at you and say “Well done, you good and faithful servant!?”

I know which one I want to hear!
